Ofelia Jarl Ortega is a choreographer and performer based in Stockholm. Her work centers around vulnerability and femininity, often with a suggestive erotic aesthetic. With movements deeply entangled with sound, Jarl Ortega directs the gaze of the spectator from the scenic, to society at large. For Jarl Ortega, the dramaturgy of the gaze makes material for choreography, where the “voluntary objectification” confronts the responsibilities of a spectator.
She has a MA in Choreography from DOCH in Stockholm, and her works have been shown at venues including ImPulsTanz (Vienna), MDT (Stockholm), Inkonst (Malmö), Les Urbaines (Lausanne), Manifesta11 (Zürich), and El Club Social de Artistas (Santiago). Jarl Ortegas’ last piece B.B. (2018) received the Young Choreographers’ Award at ImPulsTanz - Vienna International Dance Festival.
At this years PLX Tjärö, Ofelia Jarl Ortega will perform her solo performance ‘C in the mud’.
