How did language arise, and how is it connected to the human voice? That question will remain unanswered, but it is the core around which the project revolves.
The work will consist of voices producing sounds, babbling, humming and nonsense, no words; rather a sampler of the vocal apparatus's wide range. The installation will take us back to the simple joy of making sounds, the child’s vocal explorations before the revolution of language took over. The piece is playful and requires no prior knowledge but may spark thoughts about the origins of language and the delicate interplay between cognition and mechanics, between brain and speech organs.

Nils Bergendal is an educator and artist exploring historical archives, traces in the landscape and the humming of humans. He teaches at Östra Grevie Folkhögskola and is a guest lecturer at Digital Cultures at Lund University, focusing on photography, visual storytelling, and critical engagement with images. His artistic explorations usually result in installations and book publications. His latest book, "Den svunna ön" [The lost Island] is an attempt to step ashore at a place that no longer exists.
