DJ City
You’ve probably seen or heard DJ City before. Coming up in Berlin during the pre-pandemic Easy Jet-set era as a resident with Cocktail d’Amore at Griessmuehle, he gained attention and launched an international career. Around that time he also started working with Public Possession and put out a string of EPs that you can still hear in some of the worst bars in Europe whilst drinking a lukewarm IPA and singing along to the lyrics “I hope you don’t die doing drugs tonight.” His roots however, are in late 80s new wave, house and acid. Music he came to through references made by french DJs in the late 90s as he was beginning to explore dance music. As a kid, he’d fantasize about night clubs, big European cities at night and the creatures that inhabit them. Visions that came to him through MTV, Viva and radio shows. Today, he is still in pursuit of this utopian vision of night culture. A world where anything can happen and you decide yourself who you are. And these references are still there in his DJ-sets too, older music seamlessly blended with contemporary producers and artists. DJ City lives in Stockholm and Berlin and still works with labels such as Public Possession, Permanent Vacation and Uncanny Valley. He holds residences with Cocktail d’Amore, Paloma Bar and Radio 8000. He now also organizes his own party Bad Dad in Berlin, a queer night focusing on deep and eccentric house music. You should come to the next one!
